This spring, I photographed the Gordon family on one of the stormiest days San Jose had seen in weeks. Thick clouds rolled in. The wind picked up. There was even a moment where we thought the skies might open up completely. But instead of calling it off—we leaned in. And I’m so glad we did.
The result? Some of the most beautifully rich, dimensional skies I’ve seen all season. The kind of moody, painterly backdrop you can’t plan for, but always feels like a gift when it happens. The Gordons embraced every bit of it—running, laughing, snuggling in close. It was honest, a little wild, and so full of heart.
Their session was one hour long, which was perfect for what they wanted! Some of my favorite family photos sessions usually come from even longer sessions—anywhere from 1 to 4 hours. That’s when families really start to settle in and be themselves. We’re not just “taking photos”—we’re doing life together. Whether it’s a slow morning baking cinnamon rolls, hanging out barefoot in the backyard, hiking a trail you love, sitting on your front porch playing Uno, or even spending a few hours at the local amusement park—nothing is off-limits. The most meaningful photos always come from those real, in-between moments.
Family photo sessions start at $1200, and I offer custom coverage so we can craft something that feels true to you. However you move through the world as a family—I’m here to document it, stormy skies and all.
