Spring in the Bay Area: My Favorite Time for Motherhood Portraits

January 1, 2026

Hey, you!

It’s me, Whit. Lover of love, travel and the two coming together. My story goes well beyond the beautiful images you see.

There is a fleeting moment every year in the Bay Area when the landscape evolves into something absolutely breathtaking. Just as we begin the countdown to Mother’s Day, the rolling hills transform into a vibrant, multi-shaded tapestry of emerald and lime. Everything feels fresh, new, and bursting with life…the perfect metaphor for the journey of motherhood in my opinion.

As both a photographer and a mom of (almost) three, I have a deep soft spot for this season. Here is why spring is, hands down, my favorite time to get mothers in front of the lens.

The “Emerald Isle” of Northern California

If you’ve lived in the Bay Area long enough, you know that our “golden” hills are iconic, but there is something soulful about the vibrant green hills of spring. The rain has washed everything clean, and the wildflowers begin to peek through the tall grass.

Whether we are shooting in the open ridges of Marin or the hidden valleys of the South Bay, the backdrop this time of year is soft, lush, and incredibly flattering. It creates a painterly glow that feels both timeless and whimsical.

Documenting the Light of Motherhood

Being a mother myself, I know how often we are the ones behind the camera (or the ones making sure everyone else’s hair is brushed and shoes are tied). My favorite part of being a photographer is finally putting Mom in her best light.

There is a specific radiance that happens when a mother is highlighted by the love of her children. Whether it’s a toddler tugging at your dress or a newborn cradled against your chest, those unfiltered, raw moments of connection are what I live to capture. In the spring, with the world blooming around you, that connection feels even more profound.

Celebrate Your Story This Spring

Mother’s Day is right around the corner, and there is no better gift to yourself (and your children) than being present in your family’s visual history. Let’s head into the green hills together and capture the magic of your current season.

Whitney

My heart and passion for this work is summed up by the act of service. From the first wedding I ever photographed to ones years later—I’ve yet to come down from the high of being part of a couple’s best day and putting it in digital form to look back on for a lifetime. I take my craft seriously, and that means serving you in all aspects on your wedding day, and the days leading up to it.

Engagements

There’s nothing quite like springtime in San Jose. For a few magical months, the rolling hills of Silicon Valley transform into a vibrant, almost surreal shade of green—lush, alive, and full of promise. It’s hands-down my favorite time of year to shoot, and if you’ve ever driven through the foothills in March or April, you […]
