Melanie and Ryan’s recent maternity session was the perfect example of this. We headed to the iconic black sand beach (located near the ruggedly beautiful Marin Headlands), and the afternoon was pristine. We were lucky the road to the beach was open for access because often, it’s not! While the rest of the country was bundling up, we were treated to that crisp, clear San Francisco sunshine that makes the Pacific Ocean sparkle like diamonds.
If you’ve never been, Black Sands Beach is one of the most unique pockets of the California coast. The dark, charcoal-colored grains provide a high-contrast, moody backdrop that makes a white lace maternity gown or a flowy pastel dress absolutely pop.

Watching Melanie and Ryan together, it was easy to see the excitement and love they already have for their little one. These sessions are about more than just the “bump”—they are about capturing the last few chapters of your story as a duo before you become a trio.
